Weddings – 2010 and 2011

Here are Featherwinds Lodging and Weddings we have noticed a trend of “last minute” weddings. We have only a few weekends available for 2010 fall weddings. If your wedding date is important to you, please consider securing your wedding date now. If you are interested in having a fall wedding but the actual wedding date is not important, you should still consider securing your date; we are still receiving inquiries for the fall and early winter of 2010.

We have also booked several weddings for the 2011 year. Every month appears to be of interest to everyone instead of the long ago traditional June wedding month. August and September seem to be of great interest for most of our inquires. If you are considering getting married in August or September 2011 you may want to consider making an appointment to speak with our wedding and event coordinators and then booking for your wedding if Featherwinds is agreeable to you.

Featherwinds has been providing wedding services for over twenty – one years. Most of our wedding packages include: wedding and event coordinators, set up of tables and chairs, linens and clean up. Featherwinds has only a couple of rooms available for this 4th of July weekend. If you are traveling to the Leavenworth area for Independence Day weekend, you should consider booking your accommodations now. At this time Featherwinds still has a couple of rooms available, however we do book out quickly during holiday weekends.

2010 Wedding Dates

Although 2010 appears to be a busy wedding year as in the past, we do have a few weekends available for last minute weddings. These weekends are fill, so if you are thinking of getting married this summer or early fall, be sure to book as soon as possible.

Remember, once you book your wedding venue, everything else comes into place especially here at Featherwinds. We offer floral services with 2 on site florists and assistants, on site catering, wedding and event coordinators and each of our wedding packages include a wedding cake!

Featherwinds wedding grounds are designed with photo ops in mind with nature’s beauty enhanced with features that are natural to the area with the addition of our Secret Garden.

Our Secret Garden is filled with sever different rose bushes, ground cover and many other plants with a water fountain for added photos. Our Wedding Gazebo is large enough for the wedding party as well as room for a candle ceremony. Our Wedding Gazebo sits beside a beautiful natural looking waterfall that appears to be coming from out of the forest surrounding our wedding grounds.

Labor Day Weekend

Featherwinds Bed and Breakfast Pool Open

The pool is up and running! June 1st brought the opening of our pool here at Featherwinds. However, because of mild temperatures, the pool has not been invitingly warm (remember it is solar heated). With the warm temperatures of late, the pool is heating up and is waiting to be used.

Pool will remain open until September 31st when it will be close for the season, unless weather dictates an early closure. Should this happen we will post the early closure notice here on our blog and also on our website.

Traditionally June has been considered the wedding month, however over the years that has changed. This year August and September have been the most popular months for weddings. All weddings at Featherwinds Lodging are Private Weddings. We do only one wedding at a time, devoting our time to you and your guests. Here at Featherwinds, we do not just rent you a room, we have Wedding Planners and Event Coordinators to assist you, certified Florists and catering staff available to help meet your needs and dreams for your special day.

Featherwinds offers indoor and outdoor weddings and a 2,200 square foot “Sunroom” for your reception and dining. Our wedding grounds are designed for outdoor weddings providing several backdrops for wedding photos and beautiful wedding ceremonies. Our wedding grounds feature a wedding gazebo, wedding arbor, waterfall and our “Secret Rose Garden” with water feature.

Featherwinds Lodging is a Destination Wedding Resort as well as providing over night accommodations and retreats. Destination Wedding Resort

Featherwinds has vastly become known as the Leavenworth Destination Wedding Resort. Opening in 1991, Featherwinds has grown from the original Bed and Breakfast to having five buildings the last of which was built with weddings in mind.

The Guest Inn, our wedding facility, has four bed and breakfast style guest suites, one of which is a bridal and honeymoon suite. The Guest Inn features our Sunroom for indoor weddings and receptions. The Sunroom is a wide open room featuring a custom rock fireplace providing a wonderful backdrop for wedding ceremonies.

Outdoor weddings are held at the The Guest Inn Wedding Grounds. The grounds feature a wedding gazebo, arbor, a “natural” water fall, and a beautiful secret garden with water fountain.

Our destination wedding package includes the services of our wedding planner and event coordinators, use of the Sunroom, tables, chairs, linens and the wedding cake. Additional services are available: catering and floral – two onsite certified florists.

Featherwinds Lodging has been hosting weddings, retreats and special events since 1991. We can lodge up to approximately 60 guests between our 5 facilities. Featherwinds offers accommodations in 2 bed and breakfasts and 3 cabins, lodges designed for families and large groups.

Our wedding gazebo, waterfalls, and secret garden with water feature all have become very popular for wedding backdrops and photo opportunities. Navigation systems are not entirely accurate in the Leavenworth Upper Valley. If you have made reservations of any type with a business in the Leavenworth Upper Valley, check the website for directions. Do not rely on your navigations system.

We have created a Directions Webpage for getting to Featherwinds Lodging. We are easy to get to, however many people have use navigation systems that are not accurate. All roads leading to Featherwinds are main roadways and do not take you on forest service roads, private roads or logging roads that go up and over Natapoc Ridge or over Camp 12 road.

Hiking The Leavenworth Upper Valley

The Leavenworth Upper Valley is now getting fall weather; cold mornings, sometimes below freezing but daytime highs are still getting up around 65 degrees. There is still time to get in a few more hiking trips before the snow flies. The Leavenworth Upper Valley is home to some of the best hiking trails and scenery in the state of Washington.

With cool mornings and warm afternoons a day hike into the foothills of the Cascades would be spectacular. The scenery, birds and wild life, the great outdoors is at your finger tips. Most of the trails are still open and in great condition. The local Range Station is open on Friday and Saturday to get updated maps and information.

Reaching a ridge top and looking down at the valley is a sight to behold. With little to no clouds in the sky, you can see for miles and miles. The lush green valley floor, deep dark green trees speckled with red, orange and yellow fall colors, it’s a piece of heaven on earth.

If you’re not into hiking, try horseback riding. Local outfitters offer trail rides for groups of all sizes and experience levels. Scenic riding trails are available so be sure to bring your camera! You may get that perfect picture of an eagle or hawk flying overhead, deer or elk grazing, coyote or fox off in the distance, a moose wandering the hillside, or maybe even a bobcat or lynx strolling by, not aware of your presences.

The opportunities are endless in the Upper Valley. Relax and enjoy the world around you. Nature at it’s finest.

Flowers, Nursery Closed

Unfortunately, Featherwinds will not be operating their nursery this year. Normally, in the past, Featherwinds has operated Mountain Bounty Nursery. This is a nursery the owners and staff of Featherwinds started several years ago. With the growing demand from local and visiting friends and guests, Featherwinds increased its growing operation by over 200% from each previous year. Unfortunately, we will not be operating our nursery this year; fortunately it is because of our commitments to weddings, events and retreats scheduled for this spring, summer and fall. These commitments have to take precedent to our growing operation. We will not be taking down our "green house", "holding area" or our "sales area". We have not decided if closing the Nursery will be for just this year or if is going to be a permanent closure.

Thank you for your understanding and thank you for making our Nursery one of the biggest and most successful in the area.

Spring Is Coming, Snow Is Leaving

Even though we have been receiving snow lately, the much warmer daytime temperatures have melted most of the snow. The grass is starting to turn green and grow, bulbs are breaking ground and birds are returning to the area. The sun is out and temperatures are on the rise!

Fishing, hiking, horseback riding are all activities offered in the Upper Valley just outside of Leavenworth, Washington. If you are looking to get in that last snowshoe trip, you better hurry! Want to hit the slopes for that last ski or snowboard run, now is the time. Although conditions are starting to warm, there are some areas still open and available for snowshoeing, skiing, snowmobiling and cross country skiing.

You can stay at Featherwinds Lodging, then enjoy the day in the great outdoors or maybe take in a shopping trip to the Bavarian town of Leavenworth. Enjoy the sounds of birds as they return for the spring and summer. Watch for wildlife as they start to move around and explore the "new" surroundings.

Wedding Cakes

We have recently uploaded a few wedding cake pictures to our live blog site. The pictures are just a few examples of the custom wedding cakes Featherwinds has made for weddings. Our wedding cakes are made fresh and designed for the bride and groom. No two wedding cakes are designed the same. Even when the same cake top is used (supplied by bride and groom) the cakes are different.

Be sure to check out the Peacock cake. This cake is one many specialty custom wedding cakes. Our cakes can be of a basic design to very elaborate design. We will be uploading more cakes pictures while we are re-designing our wedding cake web page.

ß News Flash à More Snow!

Over the weekend we received about 5" of new snow. Winter is not over yet; it is still hanging on. Last week we were getting "normal" springtime snow; fluffy, big, wet flakes. The springtime type snow came a little early (about 2 weeks); snow in the morning then warmth and sunshine during the day.

However, this weekend we received small, dry flakes reminiscent of a Christmas Eve snow storm. Current weather reports indicate the possibility of more snow and cold temperatures. If you enjoy the outdoors and snow sports, this could be a last chance to for winter time fun.

Here in the Lake Wenatchee, Leavenworth Upper Valley there are snowmobiling trails, cross country ski trails, snowshoeing and skiing available. Spring is on its way. Lately we have had a mix of snow, rain, and sunshine. This is normally a good sign that spring is coming. We are starting to book for a lot of summer time get aways in our lodges and cabins. If you are thinking about a quick mini vacation of a couple days or an extended vacation, you may want to consider booking now.

Here at Featherwinds we have 3 cabins/lodges. All three are fully furnished homes featuring a full kitchen and outdoor hot tubs. During the summer, each lodge has an outdoor barbeque for guests to utilize. All of our cabins, lodges, and bed and breakfasts are all located on connecting 23 acres. We have staff on hand 24/7 to handle any questions or concerns you may have during your stay. ß News Flash à It's snowing again! There is still time to hit the slopes.

Yes, it is snowing again, here in the Upper Valley in the Wenatchee Recreation Area, just outside of Leavenworth, WA. Not much snow is coming down, but fresh snow does bring the thought of enjoying any of the winter sports. If you are a skier, snowboarder, and snowmobiler or like to enjoy any winter sport; time is almost up for your outdoor enjoyment. We have had up to 40 degree weather lately; we have lost a lot of snow so if you keep putting off that last and final ski trip of the year, you better hurry.

So far today we have received about a ½ inch of fresh snow; it's not a lot but it sure makes everything look pretty. Maybe it's time to put together a group of friends for an outing filled with winter fun and relaxation. You can book a lodge or cabin for your group at Featherwinds. We are only about 30 minutes from Stevens Pass Resort. Spend the day skiing or snowboarding at Stevens Pass, then return to Featherwinds and enjoy a relaxing evening with your family and friends. Remember to bring your swim suit, our lodges and cabins have outdoor hot tubs to aid in your relaxation and fun. Fully furnished lodges including a full kitchen including pots and pans, plates and flatware, etc are perfect for a group gathering. And we must remember, all the cabins and lodges have gas fireplaces to enhance your relaxing stay.

ß News Flash à Leavenworth lodging, snow is falling and more expected.

There is still time to get some time on the slopes. Skiing, snowboarding, cross country skiing, snowshoeing; whichever it is you prefer, now is the time.

Snow is expected all this week. Tonight's forecast says we are to get between 1" and 2" of fresh snow and more is expected during the week. Your best chance for some good snow activities will be during the week. We are expecting rain by the weekend, so try to get some time off during the week and hit the slopes.

Our Romantic Weekend includes it all; dozen roses, special gift package, romantic dinner for two and a two night stay. Our Romantic Weekend truly is a romantic time to remember. The romantic, succulent dinner includes: personal, 6.5oz filet mignon, pastry wrapped Beef (or chicken) Wellington, vegetables such as cardamom carrots and asparagus, appetizers, tasty, fresh garden salad and dressing, sparkling beverage, and ending with the signature cake, topped with fresh roses and sparkling cider along the side. This is part one of a news statement by Featherwinds Lodging, LLC. The news statement provides background, history and present information regarding Featherwinds. From nightly accommodations to destination weddings, Featherwinds is unique in their abilities and what they have to offer their guests.

Our family is privileged to be part of the ever-growing industry referred to as, Bed and Breakfasts. We now are going on twenty years since the inception of Featherwinds and in an industry of many short timers, we still get a kick out of guests and enjoy who and what we encounter in our profession. Having built each of our facilities, we find ourselves in the unique niche of an ever-growing story of growth and service to our clients. Guests often come for a weekend and come back as a family to enjoy our area and our very special town and it's setting.

Just to be in these beautiful Cascade Mountains of Washington is one of the incredible gifts of our life that actually started with the first Christmas Lighting Festival many years ago when our children were little and my parents purchased the first property here in this recreation area for the family to enjoy.

One can never determine where the journey will take you but ours started with the actual first of our facilities, Featherwinds Bed and Breakfast. It began as we endeavored to serve the best, freshest and wholesome foods that we could and ultimately seemed to bring people back again and again. Return guests often request a breakfast or dessert they had enjoyed on a prior visit. On all weekends except holiday, festival and wedding weekends, a complimentary breakfast is delivered to our cabins. Early on we started our Cake and Champagne complimentary offering with a two night stay for anniversaries and birthdays. We found it to be tremendously successful. We have since changed to sparkling cider; however guests can bring an alcohol beverage if desired. Fresh roses, beautiful white linen with sparkling stemware with silver flatware, and a gentleman not knowing how to impress his special lady, just tipped the scale in his favor to be sure! This beautiful and delicious specialty would be delivered to their suite when they were out for the evening and always is a welcome surprise to both upon their return.

With the cake and sparkling beverage surprise we started with, we have incorporated it into the Inn that we built five years ago. The Cake and Cider is still a favored gift from us for many on a two-night stay here at Featherwinds. This gift can also be enhanced with a dozen roses and a special gift package as well if requested.

Leavenworth Lodging, Events, Winter Travel

If your weekend get away brings you to Leavenworth, WA, remember, winter driving conditions exist.

Although there is only a little snow in the passes, snowfall has been little and far between, conditions can and do change at a moments notice. Be prepared; do not get caught in a winter storm.

Be prepared. Carry chains and know how to install them. Always travel the passes with a full tank of gas; you never know if you will be stopped on the pass. Carry a first aid kit and road flares. Have a map of the area you are traveling, don't rely solely on GPS navigational systems. Carry an extra change of warm clothes and keep a blanket or two in your vehicle. If you have a cell phone, bring it with you and make sure the cell phone is fully charged.

If you are spending the night, make your reservations BEFORE traveling. Festival weekend accommodations fill quickly and early in the year. You may need to book a month or two in advance (if not sooner). This is NOT UNCOMMON. You may want to verify your reservation BEFORE traveling, request a confirmation notice upon booking.

If the lodging facility you are booked at provides directions and/or a map, bring a copy with you when you travel. Check road conditions with the Department of Transportation (DOT) BEFORE you travel.

Remember, most lodging facilities list mileage distance and/or travel time from popular landmarks or cities. The travel time listed is normal drive time during average conditions. If you are not familiar with the area, it may take you longer to travel. Weather conditions may also add to travel time.

Please drive carefully and enjoy your trip to Leavenworth Washington and the Leavenworth Upper Valley.

If your weekend get away brings you to Leavenworth, WA, remember, winter driving conditions exist.

Although there is only a little snow in the passes, snowfall has been little and far between, conditions can and do change at a moments notice. Be prepared; do not get caught in a winter storm.

If the lodging facility you are booked at provides directions and/or a map, bring a copy with you when you travel. Check road conditions with the Department of Transportation (DOT) BEFORE you travel.

The snow is falling, finally. It is begining to look as if we are getting back on track for normal snow fall in the area. We are pushing close to a foot of snow and it looks like a winter wonderland.

A reminder that our Bed and Breakfast and our Guest Inn (B & B) style are closed for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. However, our lodges and cabins are available. Check in for our lodges and cabins must be no later than Dec. 23 and check must be no earlier than Dec. 26. We do not do check in's on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.

As of this morning we have 4 inches of fresh snow. Winter has finally hit. With the possibility of over a foot of snow this weekend, it's time to enjoy the Upper Valley winter wonderland. It's time for skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, sleigh rides and romantic walks in the snow.

Featherwinds Bed and Breakfast

It is that time a year again; the cold mornings, frost and dew on the grass and rooftops, leafs are changing colors (bright yellows, reds and browns), the deer can be found eating apples off the trees, the hint of winter coming is in the air.

That means it is time to close the hot tub and swimming pool for the season. As of October 18th, the outdoor pool and outdoor hot tub at the Bed and Breakfast are closed. We will not be maintaining them during the winter; they have been drained and winterized. However, if you are booking or have booked accommodations in one of our three lodges/cabins/vacation homes, those hot tubs are and will be running all year round.

If you are planning to stay at the Bed and Breakfast, and would like a jetted tub, we do have one room, the Main Floor Suite, that has a in-room jetted, two person tub. Please keep in mind during festival weekends, we book out fast and long in advance. For during the week stays, we do book out but not as fast as for the weekends. The annual tree lighting is just around the corner. Here at Featherwinds Lodging we have only a few accommodations available for the weekend ceremony. As with most lodging facilities in and around the Leavenworth area, festival weekends are a minimum two night booking. The Leavenworth tree lighting is a spectacular event held the first three weekends in December. Drive a short distance to town from Featherwinds, then enjoy the holiday spirit and festive atmosphere. Go for a sleigh ride, shop till you drop, people watch, take in the festive decorations and activities. Go for a romantic walk in the snow, see the sled dogs, and don't forget to get some roasted nuts or pretzels from the street corner venders. Featherwinds Lodging has some lodging available for Octoberfest. Accommodations go quickly during this festival weekend. We have a couple of rooms available for the first weekend in October. In years past, all lodging in the Leavenworth area are booked out for Octoberfest. This year is not looking any different.

Leavenworth's Octoberfest has become very well known nationally. Aside from Christmas Lighting, Octoberfest is probably one of the busiest festivals for Leavenworth, WA. Our Bavarian Village decor and atmosphere is enjoyed by thousands of people every year. The number of guests visiting our area increases every year.

The new wedding package here at Featherwinds will include: rehearsal dinner with table arrangements and flowers for the bride, indoor or outdoor wedding, set-up and clean up, reception dinner, table arrangements, wedding party flowers, alter arrangements, guest book table arrangement, buffet table arrangement, wedding cake, table and chairs, linens, stemware and flatware, lodging for 2 nights, and a thank you brunch.

Although all the details are not worked out yet, this is just a taste of what the package will included. The package will be called "The Princess Bride Package". And yes, we did say the Wedding Cake would be included. You can click on the link to see pictures of some of our custom wedding cakes.

Leavenworth Lodging for the holidays, book now.

As with every year, lodging facilities around Leavenworth fill up early. Featherwinds still has a few rooms available for the month of December. Christmas lighting in Leavenworth makes it a very busy time for lodging and restaurants. Every year we book out early. If you are planning on visiting Leavenworth, book now. Most lodging is a required two night minimum for festival weekends. Even the hotels and motels in Leavenworth require two night bookings.

If you are visiting Leavenworth for Octoberfest and you haven't booked yet, you need to. Octoberfest has a large draw and is bringing in more visitors each year. If you are coming over with a group of friends and family, you might want to look at renting a lodge, cabin, or vacation home for the weekend. Our Guest Inn and Bed and Breakfast are almost full, for each weekend of Octoberfest, but we still have a lodge and cabin available.

Don't get let down. Book now for Octoberfest and Christmas Lighting in Leavenworth. If you are booking at a hotel or motel, confirm your reservation, some hotels/motels double book to ensure they have all rooms filled.

Something new for Leavenworth Weddings at Featherwinds

The Staff here at Featherwinds are talking about wanting to do a All in One package. Although, our current package does include most everything available, it has been left open-ended for catering and floral.

Our staff has been working very hard between weddings, to come up with a All in One Package. The working title of the wedding package is: "Princess Bride Package". It will include catering and floral. The catering will include a rehearsal dinner, reception dinner and a morning thank you brunch. The reception dinner will feature TWO entrees. Each of your guests will receive both entrees if desired. At Featherwinds, whether it's one, two or three entrees, you get full servings of each. WoW! As you know, most catered events offering more than one entree, is only half servings of each or even one third of a serving depending on the number of entrees.

The floral for the new "Princess Bride Package", will include flowers needed for a normal wedding including up to 6 of the Bride's ladies and 6 of the Grooms guys. You will also receive extras such as 4 arrangements for pillars, unity table, gift table, buffet table and guest book table arrangements. There may be a upcharge for flowers, depending on the flowers you want to use. The package price will include roses, carns and common season flowers. Of course hybrid and out of season flowers will cost more, but you would only be charged the off season up charge.

Featherwinds Bed and Breakfast Spring Snow

Well, it was starting to look a lot like Spring, here at Featherwinds. But with an unusual storm front hitting the west coast, mountains and through to the east side of the Cascades, winter is refusing to give in to spring. We have received a little of over two inches of fresh snow. Just in time for Spring Break! This could be your last chance for snowboarding or skiing (on fresh snow), this year. The scenery is very picturesque. The new snow fall is reminiscent of the first snow fall of winter, allowing that sly smirk, childish warm and giggle inside. Thank you for this wonderful location. We are here for our niece's wedding. Could not have picked a better place. Everything was 5 STAR. The accommodations are the best. The decorating, flowers, cake (mmmmm), foods, reception room, the wedding gazebo, lawns, landscaping, everything was absolutely the best. The wedding coordinators were so wonderful, excellent, job well done. It is obvious you care about what you do and what you have to offer. Your hearts are filled with love and it shows. Snow, snow, and more snow!

Wow!! Over a foot of snow fell at Featherwinds Lodging last night. The roads are being cleared as we speak and it is looking so beautiful!For the outdoors enthusiasts, this is great!
